The two main contenders for the next President of India appear to be Former President APJ Abdul Kalam, backed by Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee and SP chieftan Mulayam Singh Yadav, and the UPA nominee, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee. Both the UPA and NDA have planned meetings today to come to a consensus on their Presidential candidates. Mamata Banerjee will not attend the UPA meet.
