Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has quit as the head of the EGoM. The Prime Minister accepted Pawar's resignation after receiving a letter from the Union Minister claiming that he was 'overworked'. In his letter to the Prime Minister, Sharad Pawar has also mentioned attempts made to tarnish his image by linking him to the 2G spectrum allocation scam. Allegations have been made in the past that Sharad Pawar had connections to those accused in the 2G scam. With close associates such as Shahid Balwa in jail, questions were being raised on the propriety of Sharad Pawar continuing as the head of the EGoM.
