Sushil Kumar Shinde, the Union Power Minister has announced that 40 per cent of the power has been restored in the North. He assures that the remaining power will also be restored and the situation will come back to normal in 2 hours. Sushil Kumar Shinde claims that the essential services are not hit by the power outage. All the thermal power plants in Northern India had failed, leading to the shutdown in the entire Northern grid, which left seven states powerless. Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh bore the full measure of its impact. Many express trains were stranded.
