In the Adhithi segment of Namasthe Kerala, Divya Dinesh interviews Malayil Moosakoya, who has been a journalist for about 40 years now. He talks about how he he started by writing small articles for almost all newspapers based out of Calicut before landing a job with 'Chandrika', a Malayalam news daily. He worked for 16 years in the Malayalam news industry before moving to 'Kuwait Times'. He then talks about the changes the news industry has witnessed over the years, including the advent of information technology. He also reminisces how competition in the early days of his career was of a creative nature, and laments the loss of personal bonding now. While journalism was not a lucrative career option in his heyday, with many journalists facing financial hardships then, things have changed, with the entry of corporates into the fourth estate. Interaction among journalists have become more common now, he adds. In addition, he narrates how there was a press blackout during the Saddam Hussein-led Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, and how Malayalees trapped in Kuwait faced several hardships then. He also tells how he felt pained when he came to know of the travails faced by victims of visa fraud, and how he played his part as a journalist by bringing it to the attention of the Indian Embassy in Kuwait City. He also says that he has been inactive from the field for about an year now, and describes his new occupation as the Director of India International School, a CBSE school in Kuwait. He also talks about his family, and details the recognitions that have come his way for his meritorious service to the field of journalism.
